Research & consultation

Powerful ideas are built on deep insights. Whether it’s desktop research, interviews, workshops or a tailored mix, we flex our curiosity to uncover the knowledge and translate it into practical, meaningful recommendations.

We have experience talking with all kinds of interesting people. Whether they’re farmers, executives, First Nations people, LGBTIQA+ communities, newly arrived migrants, young people, grandparents and everyone in between, we create spaces where authentic conversations happen, a range of views are shared, and genuine insights emerge.

Improving living for those living in residential parks – Consumer Policy Research Centre

Residential parks (land lease communities) are a growing but often overlooked form of housing. We facilitated stakeholder workshops on behalf of the Consumer Policy Research Centre (CPRC) and the Commissioner for Residential Tenancies to test emerging legal and regulatory reform recommendations.

Across the two workshops—one with residents, the other with industry—we created a safe structure for meaningful dialogue about security, affordability, and rights in this growing housing sector. Workshop insights will feed directly into the Victorian Government’s consideration of future policy settings.

Local government energy upgrades review – Merri-bek City Council, NAGA and EAGA

This project examined home energy upgrade approaches by Victorian local governments across three household types: general households, households more vulnerable to climate risks, and strata properties (apartments and units).

By combining desktop research, stakeholder interviews, and co-design workshops with staff from 16 councils and 2 alliances, Let Me Be Frank developed preferred energy upgrade models for each household type. Participating councils continue to collaborate, progressing the models towards practical implementation.

Working with apartment and strata communities - City of Melbourne

Apartment building communities face unique challenges and opportunities related to electrification, climate resilience and liveability.

Let Me Be Frank, in collaboration with strata experts Julie McLean and Janette Corcoran, developed the Working with Apartment and Strata Communities: A Handbook for Local Governments. The detailed Handbook provides practical guidance for all levels of government seeking to engage effectively with apartment residents and owners, addressing both sustainability, resilience, and broader community needs.

Foundations for a circular economy - Bass Coast Shire Council

We wrote a practical, principles-based foundations document to support the development of Council’s Circular Economy Framework which will guide the transition from the traditional take-make-waste economy to one where materials are valued, shared and reused.

Grounded in local context and inspired by global best practice, the Framework explores circular economy opportunities across construction, agriculture, tourism, education and community life. It highlights real-world initiatives in Bass Coast and charts a clear role for Council, business, community and government in driving a zero-waste future.

Program design & implementation

We love turning good ideas into action. Whether you’re just starting out or nearly ready to launch, we design programs that drive meaningful change for your team, your organisation, or your community. We combine evidence-based practice, co-design and real-world delivery experience to build programs that are practical, people-centred and outcomes focused.

And yes, we will jump the chance to roll up our sleeves for implementation too—because we're doers, not just thinkers.

A core part of the approach is to connect and upskill locals so future repair events can be lead by passionate community members, with support from councils as needed.

Let Me Be Frank engaged with local retailers to understand current practices and make practical recommendations to develop a local circular program. The project presents opportunities to not only drive sustainability outcomes but to unite retailers around common goals, and deliver a competitive advantage.

Strategy & planning

Collaboration is key to how we shape clear, values-led strategies that inspire action. Whether it’s an organisational roadmap or a climate plan, we help to define a clear vision, build on existing foundations, unpack big ideas, and break it all down into doable steps.

We believe the process matters. We’re big on participation and co-creation because we know that’s where the real magic (and buy-in) happens.

It was important to hear from staff across Council, the community and other stakeholders to develop a locally relevant Strategy. As such, we delivered a range of internal and external workshops, along with a community survey. The Mayor provided feedback that the Strategy was a true reflection of the local community.

Culture & systems building

Whether at the team or organisational level, we help build equity centred, forward thinking cultures people want to be part of, and the systems that help the culture stick.

One of our biggest passions is building cultures where transformative climate action thrives. If you’re looking to embed climate action across your team or organisation, we’ve got a stack of proven approaches that we can evolve and tailor for councils, businesses and organisations of all sizes and types.

Through deep listening and collaborative reflection and visualisation techniques, the workshop surfaced the team’s strengths and gained alignment about their future direction. The process culminated a strategy-on-a-page which captures their ambition and approach: to build a stronger, safer and more capable community, before, during and after emergencies.

Gray Puksand is now using the work to guide decision making, investment and development across the organisation to ensure their operations, their culture and their projects are having a more positive impact on people and planet.

Events & engagement

In a world where polarisation and isolation are all too common, events and engagement activities can be the antidote. Places for people to connect, collaborate, and create change.

From forums to small festivals, workshops and stakeholder engagements, we design and deliver experiences that bring people together with purpose. We’re skilled in navigating tricky conversations and creating space for multiple perspectives to be heard and understood.

    The Circularity of Sport

Presented by Green Planet Sport and Let Me Be Frank, with support from Game on Recycling and Sustainability Victoria. Our sporting future (at all levels of play) is facing significant risk. Our favourite venues, fields, courts, ovals are experiencing climate stress. Our love of sport drives overconsumption through vast amounts of field of play equipment, merchandise and uniforms.

The Circularity of Sport brought together a cross-sector of the Australian sporting industry to learn about the intersection of climate and sport, understand opportunities, and brainstorm innovations so sport can become part of the climate solution.
